Suspected US Drone Strike Kills 3 in NW Pakistan

Pakistani officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike has killed at least four militants in the northwestern part of the country.

The officials said the suspected strike occurred Thursday and targeted a house in the North Waziristan tribal region along the Afghan border.

Al-Qaida and Afghan Taliban militants are believed to operate in Pakistan's tribal areas, which are largely restricted to journalists.

U.S. officials refuse to publicly comment on reports of U.S. missile strikes in Pakistan, but regional and security experts believe the United States launches the strikes from unmanned aircraft, known as drones.

The strikes have been credited with killing several top militant commanders.

The Pakistani government publicly condemns the drone strikes as undermining its sovereignty, but regional experts say Islamabad privately coordinates with the U.S. government on selecting targets.
