Chevrolet has some fresh new metal sitting in its New York auto show booth. The two new Chevys include the refreshed 2013 Traverse large crossover and the all-new 2014 Impala full-size sedan.
2012 New York: 2014 Chevy Impala and 2013 Chevy Traverse Fight for Attention imageStealing the spotlight at the bowtie brand’s booth is without a doubt the 2014 Chevrolet Impala. The 2014 Impala wears an all-new design that’s more distinctive than the outgoing model. The new Impala is loaded with new technology, like Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system, and an active anti-crash suite. The automaker is planning on offering three direct-injected powerplants on the front-drive 2014 Impala: a 2.4-liter I-4 with eAssist that produces an estimated 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque, a 195-hp and 187 lb-ft of torque 2.5-liter I-4, and the familiar 3.6-liter V-6, good for about 303 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque. All three engines will be hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission.
It’s fair to say the refreshed 2013 Chevrolet Traverse is overshadowed by the Impala in New York. The Traverse is just getting a minor face-lift for the 2013 model year with new headlights and taillights, an all-new grille. The 2013 Traverse’s interior has seen some major revamping as well, with Chevrolet aiming for a much more upscale look and feel with more soft-touch materials, new interior accents, and the MyLink system. Powering the Traverse is the familiar 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 281 hp with the single exhaust, and 288 hp with the dual-exhaust. Torque is pegged at 270 lb-ft.
